Artistry

"We’re creators by permission, by grace as it were. No one creates alone, of and by himself. An artist is an instrument that registers something already existent, something which belongs to the whole world, and which, if he is an artist, he is compelled to give back to the world." Henry Miller -- Sexus

  1. I often think as I finish a piece, "If I did not do this painting today, it would not exist." I like that aspect, bringing something to life that wouldn't have been captured otherwise.

  2. Yes, that was what Miller expressed, I think. In between sex and talk on sex, he was a ceaseless talker about the act of art or about art's presence in all things. He was a philosophical fucker.
